I've always wanted to go to Wales. My mother's side of the family, the Evans, were said to hail from Wales. But we've got our sites on Costa Rica for this spring. But maybe in the fall...? I need to go win a lottery.

Wow, D2, I'll really have to find a supportive post-doc position to swing it, but I'll sure try! Always wanted to see Wales, too. Guess I better apply for our Visas now.

As far as other international locations, I was hoping to make it to a conference in Melbourne the week of July 7-12, 2009 (a year and a half from now)... I'd be willing to extend my stay a couple of days before or after those dates presuming I get to go at all.

No visa required anywhere in the EU beyond a current US Passport with at least 6 months of time remaining.

Yes tweedle, there is surfing here mostly riding the incoming tidal surge at Southerndown Beach. No monster waves except during storms and the undertow can be quite severe so bring full wetsuits and strong arms... Indeed there is one day in the spring and fall (equinox or thereabouts where there is a 4-6 foot tidal wave folks ride for 40 miles to Bristol...)

Of course we have some of the best golf in the world and those wanting to play the Ryder Cup course or Royal Porthcawl or Wales National before the event (I swear both were designed by Ray Charles so bring plenty of extra balls...) we can make arrangements. Everyone here says it is so green, I say it's mold!

They are trying to lure me to a different ocean in September, D2, but I still want to go to Wales.

I guess should ask that you plan the Wales event for the weekend of the 12th or 26th (anything but the 19th LOL). And very soon I should get passports for us all.
