California/Nevada meeting?

As I live in central CA, I'd be willing to organize a meeting here for those in CA or NV (or any other state) who're willing to show up. My area is central to everything, we're about a 3 hr drive from the central CA coast (Pismo, San Simeon, Morro Bay, San Luis Obispo), San Francisco, LA, Yosemite for those who want to make any kind of a vacation out of it.

I'd suggest the months of March - June or October - December as the most temperate.

People can fly in/drive in Friday, we party on Saturday, and on Sunday people can either return home or take an extra day and hang out here or drive up to SF or down to LA or to the coast and sight-see. (If you haven't seen Hearst Castle or whales off the central coast; Alcatraz, cablecars and the Golden Gate Bridge, Disneyland and Huntington Gardens in Pasadena and eaten a double chili cheeseburger at Tommy's, then you're missing something special and memorable.)

I've already hung a thread for December in SF, would you like help with that one and/or do something in April for the SoCal/Basin & Range set?

Why not do both so those that can't make the December event can have a better chance of getting at least one CA meet?

I'm easy, we can fold this into the Dec meet if people want. If we have it in SF there's lots more to do and see.

I've put together meets before for online friends, and I learned it's a good thing to have quiet time when people can talk and drink and nibble without loud noise and distractions. This lets people get to know each other, mingle, spend as much or as little time with one another as they like.

Everyone meeting in a restaurant is fine, but you're only going to talk to your immediate neighbors. Given a large party (more than, say, 8 people), that means you won't talk with anyone more than a seat or two away from you unless there's some kind of socializing apart from the restaurant table.

I get to California several times a year, I'll watch for the meeting times (SF, Sacto, So Cal, Napa)

i'm going to fresno and Palo Alto next month, Might be able to get a business trip in later in the year Sounds like fun...

I think there are enough TBDers out west to warrant 2 meetings. So if we do December in SF, where do you want to meet in April?

Deb, TeddyB, if you were going to SF in December, where would you choose to go in April? Put your heads together with Ken.

I've only ever been to SF, so any other part of CA and everything in NV (except LAS) will be an new adventure for me.

I agree, trying to talk over a loud room (or band) gets old fast and dinner seating arrangements limit the number of available conversation partners.

Are you planning an adult or family event? If the weather is nice (we are talking CA, right... sunshine guaranteed by state law, CA?) somewhere outdoors would be best during the day.
