Couple of years ago I planted a Magnolia on the side.. (Too messy for a street tree)

Something got it - but there are 3 suckers coming up from the roots.

I know in theory I should clip away the two weaker ones. But I had a thought.

What happens if, since they're close together, I just let them grow? Will they eventually grow together and form one larger trunk?
