Why don't you consider putting them in containers? They won't grow together and spread all over the place. Lightweight fiberglass containers are better than clay pots because they don't dry out nearly as fast.

Yes, you can put mint in containers. but it needs to be monitored, as the roots are strong and grow through any holes they can find. I am constantly pulling mint from different places in my garden. Some of it is good to have as it attracts the bees, but it needs to be controlled. :-)

As to the mint - keep it in a container. The previous owner of our house planted mint in the garden. I made the mistake of trying to dig it up before I killed it 20 years ago. The mint has now spread one to two yards in every direction. It is in the lawns, gardens, etc. of all my neighbors.

I simply plant all my herbs in a planter and say to hell with the cross pollenation as they are "huge"...my italian basil leaves are approx. 4" across and taste Great...let me know how that works out for ya'll....

That basil sounds huge! I usually have pretty good luck w/the basils. They never get that large. I guess because I use them too frequently.
