Do you think there should be special focus on making start-up funds available for Boomers in exchange for lower or no SS claims ?

Sayana, I am not sure what you are proposing. Government funds for boomers starting business, in return for a waiver of our rights to social security?
I just raised money for this business, am trying to imagine whether I would take advantage of such a program if it existed.

It's an interesting idea, isn't it?
Given that I don't assume I'll get any benefits by the time I actually need them, I'd be willing to take the start up fund if it came with a boatload of free consulting and resources.
I can do just as good a job screwing up my future as the government?

Robin,
Please accept my apologies for a delayed response.
The idea is similar to "pension buyouts" offered by corporations. It is optional. By and large, boomers have tremendous experience in various areas. If they had an opportunity to take capital in current dollars (SS buyout) and pursue a start-up. This will also help stimulate the economy, create new jobs, and help solve the anticipated SS problem.
A Win - Win - Win situation!

I am all for people starting small businesses, but I think the SS money should stay as a minimal backup for retirement. Most small bisunesses never make it beyond five years and since I do taxes for a lot of small businesses, I do not see a lot of money being made. A better investment would be to put money into retirment plans. Unfortunately I see just the opposite happening. Too many people raiding their plans and the money just disappears. I also so a lot of people putting their money into these "get rich quick outfits". I have a friend who is convinced he is going to be a millionaire, but so far all his money has gone into seminars, tapes, etc. Someone is getting rich, but it is not him

Hello!
Unfortunately, our government would find something ELSE to spend the "extra" $$$ on - not re-invest it for future SS.
I'm personally ready to let the "inmates" run the institution - the so-called experts haven't done us a bit of good!
