Army.. Wanted to learn a trade, Construction Engineer, Heavy Equipment Operator. Learned the trade, had a bunch of fun til the ruptured disc. Oh well, life's little pitfalls. Would do all over again , no regrets.
Dad was in the Navy and I figured it was the best way to get off the small farm I lived on so I signed up. First two years were a waste as I was wasted most of the time. Got my life straightened out and enjoyed the last two years.
My cousin joined the Marines in 68 right out of high school. He was wounded in Vietnam. I looked up to him, so I followed his path. My folks were afraid I would end up like he did, but I was put into the communications field. I saw Europe and enjoyed it very much.
Ok, I have decided to tell the truth to the question: Why did you choose the branch you served in? Well, to be honest, I had very little self esteem throughout high school and when it was time to graduate my parents told me that they would not pay for my college education because I had a 3.0 G.P.A. I thought really hard about it and then decided to enlist in a branch of service that would accept me. I ended up choosing the U.S. Coast Guard because when I went to the recruiting office for the Marines, they informed me that they were looking for a few good men. When I responded that I was too, they kicked me out of the office so I went to the Coast Guard recruiting office right next door and enlisted. I was honorably discharged as a Hospital Corpsman 4 years later.
You had a 3.0 in HS? Wow.
I went into my senior year needing an hour and a half to graduate. Took the full load - and graduated with a half credit to spare. My GPA was probably 1.something
