I'm so sorry to hear about your pain today. Asthma can be so scary and uncomfortable.

teacup, today I have been going through a new kind of pain for me.

It is a mental wound.

I came home to a message on my answering machine from my doctor's office.

My MRI was not good.

I have cancer.

It was most painful hearing this from a recorded message. Apparently, they made this their last call of the day, left my message and went home.

No one was available to answer my questions.

I have no idea what to do now.

Just wanted to tell thank you and I am out here if you ever need me

Oh God Pru - how could anyone think that telling you by a phone message was a good idea? They should have talked to you, and made sure you had someone with you if possible. To leave you a message, and no opportunity to ask questions, to make it and just go home seems cruel, unprofessional, down right inhumane.

I thought that very strange too.

They never called at all. I got a follow-up e-mail explaining the chemo procedure and was told I'd get my itinerary in the mail.

No one has actually spoken one word to me.

My Dad found the Canadian Cancer Society to be very helpful in answering his questions, and linking him up to someone who would call him who has a similar cancer. I have heard similar comments about the American Cancer Society. Perhaps you should call them and see if someone can help you know what to expect and give you their experience.

I think you should complain to your family doctor about this. If it was another doctor's office that did it, or even if it was your family doctor's office that did it. I think it is potentially harmful to let someone know like this - what if someone had a heart attack or something hearing it this way?

It is still bothering me the way they told you besides being insensitive, it was not protecting your privacy. What if one of your kids was home and heard that message? How much worse it could have been - for them to hear it before even you knew. I think it is just criminal that they would just leave a message like that.
