Nobody's come up with a better money-making alternative.
This is America! If big bucks can be made from inventing an alternative fuel source, another Bill Gates or two would be living in Seattle.

I don't always agree with Tony, but I think he's hit the proverbial nail on the head with this one.

Because it's still the cheapest and easiest way. They're just giving us what we want.

We need to stop wanting it so much .I saw an author on TV claim that the world produced less oil in 2007 than in 2006 . I was unable to confirm this stat online but I did see a lot of scary peak oil scenarios .It looks like the future is going to belong to the least oil dependant nations or maybe to the one with the biggest army .
I'm worried about how key oil is to food production .

It's funny how those scenarios were presented just before the wild speculation in oil began. It almost seems to be a conspiracy - I usually don't believe in those. No one knows how much oil there is because it's a state secret in countries like Saudi Arabia and Venezuela.

Estimates of how much oil exists do exist, but they are really not that important. Anyone who can think with any logic knows that at some point we will run out of oil. It is a non renewable resource. Even if more oil is found it will still be true. At some point we will have to wean ourselves of the dependence on oil. The closer we are to the empty mark when we do it, the more painful it will be. It's pretty painful right now, but going to get more so. Why is the price so high? Because we are willing to pay it.You ain't seen nothin yet.

Its not so much a conspiracy as it is a monopoly i think. The oil tycoons dont want alternative fuels why would they, it would put them out of business and they are showing record profits right now while the economy continues to suffer. They call the shots and some of us Americans arent ready to give up our horsepower and the auto companies are still manufacturing autos with it, i know im not ready to go green as far as my autos are concerned so i cant really complain about it, i STILL tend to be heavy on the accelerator, (my bad i know) i like the rush. I know someone that owns a car that runs on corn oil and or gasoline. But it cant get out of its own way. Which reminds me...today i seen an electric car broke down by the side of the road getting hooked up to a tow truck, i would imagine that its not like running out of gas when there is a problem with one of them.
