What's Happening to My Body by Lynda Madaras. There is one for girls and one for boys.

What the deal is, is that I'm working on a book. So far I have sections covering information on various STDs, forms of birth control, the pros and cons of birth control, and letters from teens about their experiences (teen parents, teens that have abstained, teens that haven't, etc). I'm doing fully detailed chapters, with the opening page of each chapter having quick answers and FAQ.

I want to know if anybody would like to see more in a book for teens.

Being a bookseller, I misunderstood your question and naturally offered recommendations.

I like the idea of including letters from teens and the format in general sounds great. I assume that the responsibilities and repercussions of pregnancy are covered under the pros and cons of birth control. My only other thoughts concern publicity (for lack of a better word) - talking with parents who have learned that their "baby" is sexually active, the possibilities of gaining a bad reputation among peers, ethics for boys who might like to brag to their buddies about their latest conquests.

JAW, mine's 38. The one thing I vividly remember about that period, was the importance of listening. It didn't matter where I was coming from, what was important ,was where HE was coming from.

I don't think there can be enough information offered on the topic of sex and young people. Another book is yet another view point that may be more acceptable than the books before it. It is impossible to be 'to' informed.

Hi JaW' I don't know if this will help at all,but here goes: when my adult children were in their teens they used to talk to me about all of their sexual questions. I think the reason for this was that they always knew I would listen,without yelling,or ranting & raving at them. From the time they were very young I always answered their questions honestly. Once they were in preteen years I opened the sexual dialogue with them myself.I always made it quite clear to them that they should get their info from me & not on the street. I think that parents should create a nonjudgemental atmosphere for their teens to feel free to get advice from them. My boys used to ask me questions even in front of their friends. When they would leave my home they always told my boys they wished they could talk to their own parents like that. Perhaps if they have never had their parents talk with them on this subject they could calmly bring it up to them themselves. It would just be important to choose a time when they and the parent were in a calm & relaxed atmosphere. It would also be important to take this step before they take any chances of making a mistake in this area of their life. Hope you can get something from this. Robin L.

I was thinking about a chapter with a title along the lines of "When You're Among the 2%" or something similar.

That's where there will be letters from pregnant teens, details regarding what to expect from the OB visits clear through to delivery. Very descriptive regarding the pains of each phase, maybe a section "When Your Hospital Doesn't Offer the Epidural'.

Including a section on dealing with the social and familial repercussions of getting pregnant is a good idea too. Thanks.

I'm a firm believer that if you give a teen as much information as possible, they are more apt to chose abstinence on their own.

I'm 40, and if something were to happen to my husband, I find the prospect of dating again terrifying. I don't have the fears of pregnancy, but rather the multitude of STDs there are out there.
