Agreed! But the problem is that there won't be much consensus on this because whites will be told that we just don't understand because we haven't suffered the racism that engendered the remarks. I will agree that I have never suffered racism and that racism is a horrible thing that needs to be eradicated from our country. But "reverse racism" and anti-US venom is not the way to do it. I can't imagine that Martin Luther King, Jr. would agree with what the Rev. Wright is putting out there.

I don't buy the term 'reverse racism'. Racism is racism. Pure and simple, it's a hatred of a group or individual based on their color.

I realize, as was explained by Obama, that many of the older generation, like Rev. Wright, still recall what it was like to be the lesser man in a segregated society, but that doesn't justify teaching the resentment to younger generations. I think they can teach these youths how to take pride in themselves without having to attack whites, or vilify the nation.

Racism will only be eradicated when people begin to learn from the past, make changes to improve the future, and let go of personal resentments. You can't do that by dubbing our nation "U.S. KKK A."

I'm Canadian, and Canadians do have some interest in your upcoming election...although your election process boggles our minds.

Most people I have talked to on my side of the border, do not think that Obama will become president, because from our perspective, we still see the US as being very racist.

Our biggest fear is that McCain will become your next president.

I have a more personal take on Reverend White. Though I do not know him, he and I went to the same high school in the same era. To be black in Philadelphia in the mid-fifties, was to be invisible. The one thing I can say with assurance is that he is mentally gifted. You didn't get into that school without lots of paper creds (IQ above 135, almost all As in 7-8th grade). To achieve and be black, he had to be the best of the best. To achieve and know that you couldn't get into the college of your choice or get a job in most industries was anathema to the American dream.

He was one of the few blacks in the school at the time. He was 2 years ahead of my class. The only black kid in my class that I recall became a beloved TV actor. His name was and is Sherman Hemsley.

Philadelphia back then was known as the northermost Southern city in the USA. Segregation was almost total - at least where they could get away with it. If you were black, you were made to feel unwelcome though it was the kind of prejudice that you saw in the movie, "Gentlemen's Agreement."

If Dr. Wright has an anger on as an old man, he earned the right to express it. AS a preacher, you have a bully pulpit and most of them use it to express everything from outrage to their feelings about premarital sex.

Until you walk a mile in his shoes, don't be the one to throw the first stone. Were his comments racist? Oh, yeah! Were they inflammatory? Yes, but not dangerous because they were spoken to his congregation, not on a street corner in a white neighborhood.

Before you call someone else a bigot, look into your own heart and the "you" I am referring to is all of us!

Earning the right to express anger does NOT give anyone the right to doctrinate others including young people into hate with lies. That IS dangerous!!

I have no trouble looking into my heart to speak the truth. I wonder where you and Mr Wright look for your lies.
