Myself I read the Lotus Sutra and Major written of Nichiren Daishonin.

I do morning and evening Gongyo from our prayers books.

Many years ago a friend of mine gave me a copy of "The Art of Happiness" by his holiness the Dalai Lama. It made sense, was an easy read and really help solidify my decision to study Buddhism. For people who would like a "starter" this is a great one.
