I found your memorable comforts from childhood, very nice. I remember being allowed to hang out with my older sisters, when they were listening to music and talking.
One more good memory, was going to the park to swim during the summer.

My comforting childhood memories include:
Talking to my father and watching him shave when I was 5 or 6.
Going to my little sister's room and eating Butterfinger bars while watching Dark Shadows.
Making cookies with my mom.
I also loved when my Mom would put up the new reproduction of a famous painting up in the kitchen on Sunday mornings. As part of our art education we would get to see a new Masterpiece every week from a set of those folio books with a tie on the side.

For me, the most comforting childhood memories come from before I started school. For two years I had my mother to myself after my two older sisters left for school each day. I remember sitting side by side in a swivel rocker while she would read to me. We took the city bus to town and she bought me some booties for my favorite doll--they were blue! She used to sing me this silly song where she faked a German accent and sang about body parts--forehead was sweatboxer, noseblower, mealpusher, chinchopper, chestector, bread basket, kneecapper and toestubber--I am sure you can figure out what is what! I used to pull the drawers out on her dresser to climb them like stairs so that I could reach the top drawer where she kept her costume jewelry. More than once I tipped the dresser over as I got older and was too heavy to be climbing up there. Funny--I have that old dresser to this day and it doesn't seem NEARLY as tall as it was back then!

My fondest and most comforting memories are sitting on my papa's lap, and the day we spent together going shopping for shoes for my kindergarden graduation. I felt so special.

My most Fondest and comforting memories are back home in New York sitting on our front porch on a hot summer night eating watermelon with my parents and grandma. Or when my grandma would hold me on her lap in the rocking chair and sing Jesus Loves Me to me.
And when my mom packed a picnic lunch of fried chicken, tomatoes from the garden, and a thurmos of coffee and with my aunts, uncles and couisins we would all go to the beach for the day.

Has any one noticed that almost all of the great memory's cost almost no money, then why is it that both parents have to work, so we can give are family everything material, all we want at a childs age is JUST time with mom or dad.

WS - I love the idea of weekly art education. I wish I had grown up in that household. Unfortunately, my education was relegated solely to the hands of the public school system.
