Would you get foot surgery so that you could fit into a really, really nice pair of shoes? How much more likely would you be to have the surgery if insurance paid for it?

i cant imagine someone having surgery to wear shoes. but i did hear one time of this woman who was a drunk. she said she drank a gallon of vodka and then proceeded to take a shotgun and blow of the bunions on her feet cause they hurt. damn i proball would miss my own feet and blow off the neighbors. they asked her if it hurt and she said less than the bunions. i want some of that kind of vodka.

Never. I wear shoes that are comfortable--if they look good, that is a bonus! Feet have enough problems over one's lifetime with all the abuse we give them without operating on them and whittling them down to fit into oddly shaped shoes!
And I totally agree--hide this question from our friends Spuff and Gator!

Hmmmm? As a middle aged gal who has had wide ugly feet all her life and has not been able to wear cute shoes, this has some potential. I was stuck with saddle shoes in grade school and really ugly loafers in high school. Now I wear clogs for the most part. Would I do it if insurance paid for it? Yep, I think I would. I'd like to just once buy a pair of really cool shoes that made me feel great (and that I could actually get on my feet!).

I'm with you there!

My friend, a podiatrist, said that this was a relatively common question amongst his patients. Having had foot surgery (the pain!!!), I thoughtthat maybe these people needed to be looking for a psychiatrist, not a podiatrist! (I've never experienced a comfortable shoe, either.)

I had foot surgery at age 28 when I couldn't even wear tennis shoes without pain. Bunion surgery is AWFUL. I still don't wear cute shoes - I just want to wear something that looks less like an orthopedic shoe and more like just a normal shoe. I can, if I choose appropriate heel heighth and toe box width. Bunions are hereditary, corns and calluses are not!
Believe me - the surgery is very painful and it takes 3-6 months before you can wear any type of shoe with any degree of comfort.
