A French critic, essayist & novelist by the name of Andre Gide said "Believe those who are seeking the truth. Doubt those who find it."
To me, that seems like a very wise way to live one's life. That doesn't necessarily mean that no one ever finds answers to their questions about what is true and what is not true. But I think it does means always remaining open to revisions of the truth when new evidence comes along and allowing that the truth might be different for you than it is for me.
So many things that people thought were true only fifty years ago have now been proven untrue. So we can't really limit ourselves to what we think to be true today, can we? We have to leave room for further developments as we , hopefully, progress through this life.
And then of course, there is the whole question of differing religious beliefs. I agree with Andre Gide and find it hard to believe anyone who says that they are absolutely certain that they have all the answers on religion.
For me, this is the purpose of our lives - to continually seek truth in all areas and be strong enough to face the fact that we may never know it all. And we can learn so much from each other, even if we have differing beliefs and truths!
Do you have a differing view? Tell me what you think but remember the rules of this group. No insulting or demeaning remarks, please!
