Hi, I just wanted a little place to tell about my husband's health issues.
My husband had a tumultuous year in 2007 with his employment situation. He's an IT (Internet Technology) guy, and was moving from being an IT Manager for one company to employment with an IT Consulting company that served numerous clients. He was laid off in January 07, found another job in July 07, and then laid off at the end of November 07.
In January 2008, he had a heart attack. The following day he had quadruple bypass surgery. During the surgery, he suffered a mild stroke.
Here we are at mid-April, and he's doing very well. He goes to cardiac rehab three times a week, and he's regained most of the function on his left side. He can drive again, but has still not been released to return to work.
But, the most telling story occurred a few days ago. I called him to tell him I was running to the store on my way home from work, and I asked him if he needed anything. He said, "I want some of that ice cream that's wrapped in chocolate." I said, "Okay, you mean the vanilla ice cream on a stick that's been dipped in chocolate?" He said no and paused for a minute and said, "Ice Cream Sandwiches! That's what I want!" I was glad he came up with it, but words seem to come slowly to him.
I'm wondering if he can do his job anymore?
More than anything, I'm thankful to still have him, and he's trying to be less "Type A" and take care of himself. I'm joining in, too.
He's got such a good sense of humor about it all...I really admire him. If he is a little clumsy, or confuses words, he smiles and says, "I'm sorry, I just had a stroke!" I usually laugh and say, "So what was your excuse before that?"
Take care, everyone, and I wish you good health.
