My pooches have a pretty decent list of commands/tricks and several corresponding hand signals.
The list: sit, sit pretty, down, stay, come, on your side, show me the belly, head down (when they lay down, the head often stays up), gimme paw (point to the one I want), spin right, spin left, go through (my legs when I'm standing), go around, the other way (reverse the way they went the first time), roll over, back up, spit it out (the tough one...only one dog obeys this one), speak, upstairs, outside, go to bed, where's <fill in> (ball, squeaky toy, my husband, my nephew), give, take it, up, off.
The best command I taught one of the dogs was for my hubby. He went to Ohio State, and Michigan is their big rival. So I taught Lucy to go potty to the command of "Go Blue," which is Michigan's cheer. My husband still loves me for that one.
BTW, National Geographic had an article in the past couple of issues that featured a border collie with a vocabulary of 600 words.

Why, thank you. When I got my first dog, I just fell in love with how attached he was to me. I took him everywhere I went. As a result, I needed him to be very well behaved and well trained. He's my sweet boy.
The second dog is my brilliant, crazy dog. She picked up everything the first dog knew, but at twice the speed. But along with that brilliance comes the whacky energy...she's a Lab...need I say more.
The training was a great way for me to bond with both dogs.

I gotta show off the pic of one of 'em. This is Lucy Fur. Her recall command is "fresh souls." The hubby taught her that one.

Gotta love those Labs, kaybee.
Mine know: cookie, stay, sit, drop, fetch, release, no, bad dog, heel, come, settle, shake, go to your bed, get busy (version of "Go Blue"), eat, hungry, kennel, dinner, breakfast, get-it, take nice, where's the kitty, toy, rope, outside, and car.
I've tried "no shed", but it just isn't getting through!
