My first pet as an adult (I use adult loosely...I was 19) was named after the French skier, Jean-Claude Killy. My cat, John Clawed Kitty, was usually referred to as Kitty. The goofy names did not stop with him. Cat number two was Pouncer De Leon after the explorer Juan Ponce De Leon. Current dog, Lucy Fur...well, need I say more. My college roommate had her cat Meow Tse Tongue. I met a Fido Castro. Friends have Kamir Kitty (say "come here kitty" with a mouthful of marbles).
