What do I do with my dear dog who is becoming incontinent?! She's messing up my house.
She's a 6 1/2 yr old standard poodle that's had 2 litters of pups. She was a bit of a submissive pee-er. It seems like it may be mostly after she's peed outside that she continues to leak for a while.
I sure don't want to deal with this, bless her. But afraid not much can be done.
Anyone have experience, advice for this problem?

Have you talked to the vet?I have a dog that does that once in awhile,in the bathroom,male dog,sometimes likes to go on the hamper.
I'd talk to the vet.Maybe she can't hold.Maybe they can give her something.

It’s essential for dog owners to know the possible symptoms of canine incontinence. The most obvious symptom is leaking or dribbling of urine. This often occurs while the dog is sleeping or relaxed. This leads to the next sign of canine incontinence which is a visible wet spot under the dog’s sleeping place. Another symptom that your dog is having trouble holding his urine is a skin irritation around the genitals. You may notice your dog licking or cleaning this area excessively and the fur down there may become discolored or stained.
A trip to the veterinarian is recommended once you suspect your dog is suffering from canine incontinence and not just exhibiting behavioral problems. It is possible that the veterinarian will ask you to bring in a urine sample. If you don’t feel comfortable doing this or if your dog is too skittish to urinate into a bowl or pan, it is possible for the veterinarian to retrieve a sample at the animal clinic. If the concern is great, the veterinarian may even extract the urine directly from the bladder. Blood tests, x-rays and/or an ultrasound may be recommended. It’s possible that your dog may have a urinary tract infection. Dogs with incontinence are more prone to develop an infection of this kind.
that's really helpful information, marge. my 9 year old female is encountering a slightly different type of incontinence--she simply is unable to hold it as well as she used to. so, i make more trips outside with her, and i make sure she is shut in the bedroom with me at night--being shut in with me is the same as crating her, in her mind.
jaybee--from what i have read, incontinence is fairly common in females, and should be easily treatable by the vet. good luck and please let us know how it all turned out?
The vet can prescribe drugs to help with that condition.

My older dog peed in the middle of my living room right in front of me. I was sitting in there feeding my granddaughter her bottle. I was shocked. He has never done this before. I think he can hold it most of the time and isn't incontinent yet. I believe he has a little dementia and thought he was outside. So now when I leave, I lock him in my kitchen with baby gates. He was always well trained and never went in the house until recently.
