Hi Jaki - Delights of the summer nights, huh? Well, keeping the topic to photography (!) ... in the first place, it doesn't get DARK. It gets dim, but not dark ... just about the time you think it's about to get dark, it starts to lighten up again. Photographically, thinking of light source and all, the angle of the sun is quite diagonal at this time of year ... this means that, the light source is not overhead, giving good contrast and excellent color. It also means that for scenic or wildlife photography, one has several more hours per day to find "that shot." If you had other "delights" in mind, you'll have to be more specific ...

Here's another glacier shot for you ... took it about 10 days ago.

just look at that---un freaking real. What is the day/night temp on the glacier? Is it deceptively warmer than it appears, or are you near freezing while I am melting???? This is a topic I am most curious about since I live in the rain forest. Or close to it. Oh except it's not raining lately, and we are melting.... No rain means no relief from the pounding heat. And I am a fan of rain... so it's doubly annoying....

Believe it or not, this area is a rain forest, too ... heavy snow in winter, heavy rain in summer. This is a Temperate rain forest which is actually an ecological zone from N. California up the Pacific coast to Southcentral Alaska ... long day light hours in the summer produces amazing undergrowth.

In the midst of it all, we have glaciers from the snow development all winter. Temperatures here at the time of these photos was high 50s/low 50s. Usual summer temps here are anywhere from high 40s to low 80s ... depends on jetstream and ocean currents from the south. We call the direct jet stream from Hawaii north, the "pineapple express" ... nice a warm. You like rain? In the summer, you'll find it in Prince William Sound ..

Uh ... that's "high 50's/low 60's" on the temperature. But we were in a boat on the water ... Termperatures are deceptive there and seem cooler than they are.

Where do you find bald eagles? At the city dump, of course!

What better place to catch those rodents with little effort.

The dump site was full of golden and bald eagles. This adult was sitting up on the top of the garbage transfer station.

Quite a sight.
