I can't wait to see what people will say to this one. My husband and I have tried the usual things to meet new friends, but zip. We're very friendly and open. I've made it a point to speak to people where we live, and have tried to draw them out. Starting to get a complex about it. Maybe someone here will have an idea or two.

I'm interested in responses to this question, as we are considering a "local TBD" feature to enable people to meet other TBD members in their areas, to help plan meetups, etc. Would you consider doing that?

Maybe. After summer. Most of the people I've tried to talk to from my part of the world don't respond. There have been two...I think. I kind of posed this very question in some forum or another, and the concensus was they would rather keep it virtual. That's ok. I'll take friends how I can get them.

That's why I joined this. Between moving around so much and switching jobs so much, we (dh & I) don't have alot of friends. It kinda sucks. It's so difficult over 40. Everyone is soooooo busy with kids and stuff. Then if you move, no one stays in touch.

I for one think it would be a great thing to try and do. Let those that want to join in come and join in and if you don't want to then it's a personal choice.

I'd be interested in meeting people locally, but I agree with what DeeD said, that most people seem to be reluctant to do that.

The only friends I've made recently are on the internet, which is all well and good, except that it doesn't feel very "commited." As in, one day they're there, and the next they're not, and you never hear from them again. It's frustrating.

That is true but I have also made some lasting friendships over the internet and have gottne to meet a lot of those people.

I think most of the reluctance is the comfort zone and having to step outside of that. That can be the hardest part but if you ever do it once it becomes easier every time.
