I started my journey back to school back in 2002. I completed my Associate degree in 2006 and decided to keep going; so now I am attending ISU. I have three grown children and was not sure what to do with myself at this stage in my life. I always liked school but decided when I was younger (22) that I wanted to be a wife and mother. I became a mom at 25 and had my children in '83, '86 and '89. I enjoyed my children completely and felt the need to fill my time. I have loved this experience so much that I decided to become a college professor myself. I am now finishing my bachelors degree and then will enter grad school.
When I first started back, I was worried that I would feel awkward and out of place with all the young people. That was not the case. There are many other older students. And I have been treated with the utmost respect. The teachers are glad to have the older students because they realize that we are there because we want to be, and the young people have been kind, and curious.
I hope whoever reads this will realize that older people are returning to school so much so that these days it is very common.
