Ah... one of my people. Per my earlier confession I parted company with "organized education" in tenth grade.
But classrooms and professors and all of that aside: how do you feel about learning itself? How do you continue to learn? Am of the belief that lifelong learning is essential to a rich and satisfying life.
Interested in your thoughts.

So why bother to join the group if you're not interested in the subject matter?

So why bother to join the group if you're not interested in the subject matter?...

Because the group is also about personal learning.
The name of the group is a bit misleading but the description is correct I can't and don't want to change the name of the group and I can't change the tags.
I first thought about "going back to college", as the topic for the group, but then I found some members really interested about self learning and I am already interested in this topic.
This is the reason why I have already started started several threads that aren't college related, such as:
- Free Online Opencourseware - Personal Learning
- Education Podcasts - Personal Learning
- Personal Learning Environment for Lifelong Learning
- Resources for Adult Learners
I have contacted and explained Jessieb all this and she now seems interested. We will see.

So why bother to join the group if you're not interested in the subject matter?...

I'm sorry, emapey, my question came off as snotty and that wasn't my intent.

It certainly did.
I joined at an invitation. Not an active member for obvious reasons. Have my own learning path and continue to trust it is right for me. Was just interested to find another member who seems to have disavowed formal education.

Thoughts:
College to me was fun, bright people who were interested and knowledgeable about their subject, very willing to share what they knew and would let me stay inside where it was warm/cool and read stuff.
The best way in the world to avoid the south end of a north bound mule and the other unpleasant things that fall into the class of "honest work".
When it was all over it taught me several things that one didn't learn in the north wood from whence I came. Most importantly 1. When facing an organization if there is a form it can be done and 2. Somebody makes forms so all you have to do is find that person. Additionally 80% of the people want to help, you just need to help them help yo, as for the other 20 %, they can be identified and avoided.
Going from the school where you get the education first then the test to the one where you get the test then the education is a real change and that is where life long learning takes place.
I take my hat off to those who took the second road, as for me I prefer the easy way and 4.75 advanced degrees later - it shows.

So why bother to join the group if you're not interested in the subject matter?...

Sorry but I do not find this reply as snotty,, it is a legit question, and yes the group title is a bit misleading BUT part of the learning is is the path the group takes. IMHO
