My family started in New Orleans and upriver before 1780. Marius Pons Bringier sailed on his own ship from South France to Martinique to partner with his brother, there were many in France, in a sugar plantation venture there. Soon later due to disagreements, social unrest, or ? he sailed to Louisiana. My GG grandfather, Michel Douradou Bringier was born at sea.
Significant but hardly all related names are:
Bringier
Colomb
Trist
Kenner
Wood
Tureau
Watterman
Thomas
And list goes on, back from me:
Fulk, Ryan
McGalliard
Lots have been written on the family as they established a dozen or so Plantations along the Mississippi river, and many stand today.
Let me know if you are perhaps related, or have an interest in the family's history. I organized a reunion in 1998 to benefit a family tomb that had been damaged in a storm. It is located in Donaldsonville, LA, and was built in 1848. We got a total of 140 people from 14 states who attended the 3-day event!
Give me a shout & reply....
