Jean, you didn't say how old the man is. It could be that he is physically unable to perform and doesn't realize that there are many ways to please a lady.

It may also be that he is asexual and just wants a companion. It could be that he is gay and doesn't want to discuss it.

Your description of his background tells me that sex was not a critical issue in his life at any time. I think you have bought yourself a friend for life who will help with the housework, chatter with you but is not husband material in the romance, communication and emotional intimacy realms. At least he doesn't ask you to do all the housework and then offer nothing in return except to burp after he eats.

You have choices:

*Take him as he is

*Reject him as he is

*Try to change him ... and good luck with that! At his stage of life, you would probably have a better chance getting Hillary Clinton to vote Republican.

Just thank your lucky stars that you have invested only 6 months of your life in him. If it were me, I would gently tell him it is not working, and if it is your home, give him 30 days to leave. If it is his home, I would be apartment searching by tomorrow morning. Your description tells me that you were the one with the home and he is burrowing in and collecting acorns to get through the cold winter.

Freedom beats having a housekeeper who you want more from. Cleaning my toilet would keep me from having backaches but I wouldn't see it as a thank you for anything ... especially if he was the one who didn't aim straight.

I agree with Doreen, but what's done is done. With a backup plan in mind if this doesn't turn out the way you hoped, I would gently force the issue either verbally or non. If nonverbally, I'd begin to touch him more often in a nonsexual way and watch his body language. If he shies away, it's time to talk. Ask him outright if he has any sexual interest in you.....and be prepared for disappointing news.

Good chance he may be unable or uninterested. I'd say you need to put "cards on the table". That should have been done prior to cohabitation.

I urge you to tell him that you have important unmet needs in the relationship: hearing how he feels about things often, and sharing some kind of physical intimacy. If he can provide, then you have a shot. If he'd like to, but has psychological issues that prevent him from meeting your needs, then together the two of you might get counseling and work on this. Or he might say, sorry, I don't express my feelings and I'm just not into sex. In that case, you have a decision to make--nice roommate or move on.
