Well, dare I say it .... sexual intimacy, obviously. At least for a very large segment of the population.

Every quality every poster here mentioned certainly adds to a good marriage and any marriage based on all of these mutually would be a fine one indeed. However, I have to point out that every one mentioned here also can be lacking in a marriage that is long lived and stable. Some of us require every one, some don't. For example, many "good" marriages are sexless or the participants wouldn't dream, of being "friends" and keep communication to the necessary minimum.
