Is it possible to combine the two?

I live in upstate NY. I wish we had the capability to put something other than zip code in the profile. While that works well for those in large metro areas, not so much for those of us in less urban areas.

CarolT - You are so observant! And clear! :) There was a question about this, which unfortunately expired. Which is why I started this discussion as it will never expire!

I would love to be able to port over all the old info, but I don't really have the ability to do that without hacking into people's accounts - So I'm hoping people will repost their own info if they're so moved.

And btw, if this thread gets too long, we can always start another - but at least it will live within this group, which is where I think it should stay.

I was born and raised in Philadelphia, lived in Norristown, PA, Dewitt, NY (right on the border of Syracuse), Harrisburg, PA, Mercer Island Washington (in the middle of Lake Washington a few gallons of water outside Seattle), back to Philadelphia and for the last eleven years in monochromatic Mt Laurel NJ where the only known products are trophy wives and ticky-tacky McMansions. Downtown Mt Laurel is a small shopping center with a remodeled WaWa across from a chiropractor and the oldest, dirtiest Rite-Aid known to man ... or woman.

I also lived for several months each in Grammercy Park in NYC and Copacabana in Rio De Janeiro, Brasil. For a number of years, I had an office in NYC on Fifth Avenue where I practiced group therapy a couple of evenings a week with abused women from the entertainment industry and the modeling industry on contract with ABC and The Elite Modeling Agency.

No matter where I live, I manage to develop a life that reflects my inner self, not my surroundings, though I've lived in some of the most wonderful surroundings on earth ... just not now.

One day, later on in life, I will move into one of the condos I own in Center City Philadelphia right across the street from the Academy of Music and the Merriam Theatre. In the meantime, the rentals I derive from them allow me a few of the extras I enjoy.

I love my life because I live regally in my little NJ condo, not in other people's nightmares or down to their expectations.

I'm living in San Antonio de Tejas, but I'm not FROM Texas. I'm FROM Webster Groves, Missouri, and always will be a "Show Me" person. However, the Alamo city is a nice place to visit <G>

LOL see that's why I'm all for people saying where they live AND where they're from since there's a huge difference for some of us. :)

I live in beautiful San Diego, California, where I was raised. I left here at the age of 14 and moved to Mexico (Chiapas' rain forest, to be exact!). Mexico was my home for 18 years where I married and spent 11 years raising two "mexicanitos". My ex-husband, two children and I moved to Arizona in 87, and after the divorce in 92, I moved back to San Diego. I now live in a peaceful, wonderful community that overlooks a valley. On the otherside, I can see the house I grew up in!! Full circle life has brought me, and I'm grateful!

Born in MN, until starting school we bounced back and forth between Butte, MT and Iron Range, MN depending on which mine was on strike. Through elementary school, if both mines on strike, lived with relatives on one of their farms in MN, until Mom divorced and we stabilized with a farm outside Minneapolis, where we raised dairy cattle, hogs, border collies, horses, and hell in various forms.

College interrupted to travel the world at Uncle Sam's expense, learn new languages, meet new and interesting people of various cultures. And kill them.

They thought the same of my rudeness, so while recuperating from combat wounds, traveled the US, reconnected with natural father and we mined and ranched in Western Montana, until for one reason or another while I recuperated from another reconstructive surgery, he went back to MN, and I went further SW and tripped the Light Fantastic in San Francisco (wanna tick off an SF'er? Call Baghdad-by-the-Bay 'Frisco, and watch the fur fly!) for several years until transferred to Fresno, CA, which I found for me to be the flaming boil on the anus of the world.

Back to MT, picking up wifey 1 on the way, a lifelong SF native, who could remember leaving the city limits less than 5 times in her life of 23+ years when I met her. I showed her; in the 10 years we were married, and had three beautiful children together, we lived in 11 houses/apts in 8 states while I consulted on computerization, sold insurance, served as a cop...

When she showed me the door (probably in large poart due to multi-cultural shock), from having lived the last 2 years back in SF, back to MT, then MN, passed through TX on way to San Diego. Lived there 7 years, picking up Wifey 2,and having child number 4, then to Spokane for 6 years, then SD again where we divorced (she was a High Maintenance California Coast girl), back to Spokane, over to Portland OR (where I met and married Wifey #3, to whom I am now married). We wintered in Las Vegas, and summered there in 2002.

On way to visit relatives in TX from Vegas, I had a heart attack, followed by my wife's stroke, then me more heart attacks and mild strokes while visiting my mother in San Diego. We got stuck there four years, in a dirty little suburb called Lemon Grove, which is the pimple on the armpit of the world, until last year when I was able to move my wife out here.

Now we live in the first house my wife has ever had her name on the title. Prior to this, she had lived her 68+ years in rented homes, with much the same gypsy existence I had. But she spent 25 years in the Dallas/Ft Worth area raising 6 kids, so Texas holds a special place in her heart. When we bought this place in the Cross Timbers/Hill Country 125.9 miles SW of DFW, 151.4 Mi N of San Antonio, and 173.1 miles NW of Austin, 99.7 miles east of Abilene, I found home.

As our realtor, my sister, and our mortgage holder explained, "Lance, you've always been a Texican. You just needed 'til now to find home." I agree. For one thing, I'm exhausted relating this, and hot dang awmighty, I lived it. So now we live in Texas's version of fruit-and-nut-ville, where we celebrate watermelon, peaches and pecans, watching the grass grow in a small town, and gossip about whether or not our grandkids's kids will be considered Comanche County residents, after the South rises again...

Mostly I just read, write, internet, care for my stroke-ridden wife and take the old Shoe Leather Express I out for his daily 1/2-1 hour spin around town to keep the plumbing lubricated, and the ticker puttering right along... Y'All come by and visit us Texicans, y'heah? We have the US and Texas flags bordering the veranda supports for the porch. Pull up in front of the house. WATCH OUT FOR COMANCHE; he's our (now) neutered Texian cat.

p.s. Texas vocabulary lesson: A Texian is a multigenerational bred/born/raised and married Texan. A Texan was at least born in Texas. A Texican ia an American who has moved to Texas. A Turista, or damn Yankee is someone coming through, who leaves money, but key word: 'leaves'. A Damn Yankee is anyone not a Texian, Texan, or Texican.
