Fed up is hardly the phrase to describe this; concern is probably more appropriate. Yes, for me, it would be "nice" if people would be able to express themselves better in writing (grammatically, spelling words correctly, etc.) as well as in speaking (choice of words, accent, etc.)

But given the infinite variety of individual backgrounds, level of education, attitude towards being able to express oneself vocally or in writing, country of origin and culture, the quality of communication (both written and spoken) have eroded significantly. This, not to mention the quality of instruction now available in schools.

If these are improved, that would be cool.

One of those times I think I will just bite my tongue.

If you're going to gripe about bad spelling, apostrophe atrocities and poor language then I applaud you!

I know I'll get hate mail if I tell you which continent has made poor grammar an artform.... and Australia comes 2nd to it.

Any type of appreciation of the origins of words English or foreign gets me in a state of excitement... with all its inconsistences (sp? lol) abuse and evolution the English language is such a treat to explore. I only wished I was fluent in more languages... what a world of new books, movies, music, philosophies, restaurant menus and street signage would unfold!!

I agree wholeheartedly with what has been said here. It is O.K. to have fun with language -punning, deliberate folkiness, speaking gobbledegook (a la Stanley Unwin). Why then does it take a Russian philologist to make a series of short videos to explore the origins of common English words and phrases is there not a native English speaker who could do something similar?

I think it is crucial that we should speak properly as well as write grammatically correct.

BTW....

Comma after "It's 3rd grade stuff", before "dude".

Capitalize both "i" in the last paragraph.

No need for a comma after "well" in the first paragraph.

Also capitalize "p" in please (last paragraph).

Thanks Sausan... I was about to point out the same grammatical errors. If you are going to be critical of others concerning proper use of grammar and spelling, you need to make sure your grammar is correct. JMO

I would say, though I am a "language" person - that if it becomes an issue as to whether or not one feels free to speak (write) here, it is something to overlook. I'm a language nut, so to speak - however, people and what they have to say are more important than any rules of language. Just my opinion.
