What icky, silly things scare you? How about irrational notions with barely any basis in reality, but powerful enough to influence you nonetheless?
When I was a kid, I was so afraid of the dark. Or of monsters under my bed creeping out to get me. I would run from my bedroom door and leap into bed so they could not grab my feet.
Now I can convince myself there are big scary fishes with pointy sharp teeth in the water, and so either stay on the shore, or plunge into the depths while staying constantly wary. I also have a 'secret' fear that I will be hit by a car (secret because it is ridiculous!).
Spiders don't scare me one bit, though. Neither do mice. Snakes still startle me--despite many years of trying to get over that heart pounding shock at the sight of one innocently slithering by.
