Yes, it's shameful being caught after deliberately being mean, or an asshole. I'm a pretty constant practitioner of the latter, and all I can do is say "I was a real asshole then, wasn't I!"

When the other person says "no more than usual" it's time to take stock in myself.

I'm at my worst when being mean by not letting a car in ahead of me. All I can do is give a "sorry" wave and hope I never see the driver again.

Forgives for everything that has happen in my family when I was younger. Because it dosen't help when you are full of angry either. I have learn to forgive.

If you get the nasty word, just say oops!

I have found that whenever I'm feeling down or struggling to muddle through a rough period in my life, it helps, at least a little, to remind myself of the sage words of an ancient Chinese philosopher.

A little background is necessary:

Many centuries ago, as the legend goes, the Emperor of China was preparing to speak to a large group of his subjects who were not at all content with their current plight.

He called in his wise philosopher/adviser for help preparing what he should say to his people.

"I need you to give me a message that will make my people feel happier.

And no matter when I repeat it, no one can ever say it is not always the absolute truth" he demanded.

Later that day the wise philosopher returned and handed the Emperor the words:

"Remember, in time, this too shall pass."
