David,
I already do this. I like that massive soundboard in the picture. Congrats on the grammy!
I operate with a Fostex MR8, Acid Pro 6 software, Fender Stratocaster, Sure, high impedence mic, Fender Squire P-Bass, Roland Juno G keyboard, Roland V drums, a Boss ME 20 effects pedal and original ideas.
I am a multi-instrumentalist with only original ideas. Since it is hard to gather adults together for anything, I work alone in my basement and post my works here: http://www.indiecharts.com/Profile.asp?butname=899383151
I don't know if "making it in the music business" is an aspiration of mine, I just LOVE recording music and will do it if it pays nothing anyway. It's the love of the game I guess. I suppose it would be dangerous if I had any measure of success in that business. Either way, I'm not stopping now that I have invested in this equipment. Early next year I may expand the 8 tracks to a 24 track recording console. Getting the music in front of "the powers that be" must be the biggest challenge on the planet since there are so very many artists trying to gain mind-share. The sheer volume of stimuli must be mind-boggling to someone of your experience.
I just sell software. I'm glad you have this post up here!
i am a songwriter and believe it or not, i have a song that i wrote in high school for duran duran and i know that it would have been a hit but would be a hit now for our generation! i always sing it in my head because it is catchy, not corny! how can you break into the business as a songwriter? because i can write a good diddy, compared to what is out now. you can answer me here or personally.
Joe-Thanks for the URL, goes along with the discussion I started. You might try ReverbNation too, if you're not already there. It has good tracking programs.
Joe, the indie site looks cool. Thanks. I have a project I call "My Rich Friends." It is industrial pop music. I do it because I love it. www.myspace.com/myrichfriends. I'm also on www.last.fm if you haven't checked that out. They are out of the UK but music supervisors look there for licensing.
I'm starting a new discussion for music licensing. Something you might want to consider for getting your music placed.
Yes. How.
