It is very simple, he is not a Republican. There may be other reasons to wonder about him but that should be the over riding factor.

Or maybe more importantly, he is not GWB or McCain. I know, I know, but I could have said the same thing about Kerry and I tried to like him, but....ewwwwwwww.

He is from "humble roots". He was not born wealthy and had to work for what he has today. He will be much more understanding of the plight of the ordinary citizen than would McCain or GWB (both of whom come from wealth or high ranking military families (McCain).

He's respected around the world. He'd use diplomacy first. He's emerged from a brutal DEM primary and was victorious over a very worthy opponent. He would seek advice. He's not so rigid, stubborn, macho that he wouldn't mull over an issue.

His VP pick is qualified to be Pres. should something happen to him.

He has Brains! How refreshing! :) I was aware of Obama before he considered running for president. I was impressed with how articulate he was - and he thought before he spoke. He has had to work hard to be where he is (nothing handed to him). Also - he is very sweet looking and has a nice gentle way of communicating. Too, he does not to be fed a script; he has ideas and thinks on his feet (like Clinton).
