There’s not much I can say about this film except “Eeeeeeeeeew!”.
I’t;s not “Eeeew” in a Slasher/Blood and Guts kind of way, but “Eeeew” in a much more disturbing and uncomfortable way. It would be a great spoiler to reveal much of the plot, and while difficult for me as a woman to watch, I would give anything to talk to a man who was able to sit through it.
It is about a husband watching a movie made by his wife and while he is trapped and unable to ‘not’ watch, we who have the ability to put a stop to our discomfort don’t. It is an unhappy wife’s brutal revenge for years of marital misery.
The reviews I’ve read of this refer to the wretched husband as the protagonist and while that is questionable, the extent of the humiliation that his wife inflicts upon him makes me inclined to wonder, who is the protagonist of this movie?
The film was directed by Australian film maker Rolf de Heer and was released in 2003. Is an extremely well crafted film, which makes it highly, emotionally manipulative. It is turmoil…but if you happen to be in the mood for that, be sure you come back here and report in on whether or not you survived the wringer.
