When my kids were little our goal was to get them to 21 with getting pregnant, getting busted or dying on us.
My daughter, Jennifer went thru some real toads before she found the guy she is with now. But this guy, it took us a long time to get use to - he is 12 years older than her (she is just 21)!. But he treats her good, has a good job, has his own place, pays his bills on time and has settled into a life where he is ready for marriage and kids.
It was hard to watch her go thru her teens - she had lots of problems, so to have her as a mature adult who is living on her own, taking care of herself - amazes me.
My son, Billy, is 19 and had a near-death car accident a year ago. He will be partially disabled, but he is still able to do most things. So we are thankful for that.
You are right - you never stop worrying about them. It's just part of being a parent I guess. But I never take a night without telling my kids how much they mean to me and how proud of them I am. Kids - even adult kids - need to hear this I think.
