No one person can do anything to stop the impending environmental catastrophe because it is a global problem. What good does it do eliminating air pollutants in San Diego when a few miles across the border people are driving old cars with catalytic converters removed?

We still have a Democratic congress and possibly a Democratic president coming along... however, if I understand you rightly, Mary, you are indicating that they will cave in to public opinion also.

A.S., I agree that it will require some severe indications before the world changes. My unanswered question (to myself) is how deep a hole will we need to be in before people respond. Of course we are already in a hole as far as population sustainability, it seems... but how much deeper will it get before the signs are inescapable, and serious actions are undertaken by ALL people and governments?

Obama: trust to do his best. But I wonder, can the two sides really be brought together to work on this? I understand that in the interest of unity he is going to let bygones (horrible, illegal, impeachable, criminal bygones) be bygones and try to move forward BUT I sure do hope he gets house and senate clear majorities so that he can move forward with his ideas and plans. If the house and the senate are close again I am sure the GOP will fillibuster and do everything else they can to impede any progress Obama would like to make.

That is interesting. Is he still against drilling in ANWAR (while favoring the lifting of the federal ban on offshore drilling)?

I'm an undecided independent and not a McCain supporter but I call it the way I see it.

McCain will absolutely NOT be another 4 years of Bush. He has opposed many Bush policies. Stop drinking the dem talking points koolaid and look at all the facts with an open mind.

For me it's not a matter of trust. I think both candidates are very sincere in what they want to do. It's a question of which candidate will be best for the economy and our security. I'll decide after all the debates are over.
