i had forgotten about those - cullottes! yay!!! the only thing that sort of resembled pants that my school allowed us to wear, and we did, with fishnets! (see the "growing up boomer" posts).

and wrangler jeans - they were the best fitting - i can't find them anywhere in the midwest anymore, but found some in south dakota a few years ago. too bad i've outgrown them.

i guess the cullottes with fishnets was pretty strange attire, but we didn't think of the stockings as sexy then, just "british." and peasant dresses - yes i believe i wore a peasant dress to prom in my jr. year - my daughter was going through some old pictures with me once and came across that prom picture. she gave me a look that asked, " tell me again, mom, on what planet did you say your high school was?" i mean, nowdays how many young women want to look like they're off to the little prom on the prairie?

and nehru jackets - don't get me started!! (i don't know how to spell "nehru?" either.)

Yep..as soon as i saw the Beatles wearing narew jackets..I was there,happening ya no.

school rings of boyfriend proudly displayed on a big chain-or the girl wearing the ring with 50 miles of yarn wraped around it so it stayed on.

I wore a kaftan to my graduation very turquise and LOUD paisley-sticking out the bottom of my graduation gown.

yeah i had that big ring full of yarn - when i broke up with the guy he told me he had lost my ring, so i never got to wear a class ring. well i wasn't too shook up, but my mother was p-o because she was single and had paid for the ring.

for our senior prom my friend and i bought really cool long bright colored (polyester) dresses. by then we had made a few discoveries about the power of allure, and the dresses said that - when we got ready at my house she discovered that her mother had sewn up the slits on the side of the dress and had closed the low cut opening at the neckline. with minutes to spare before our dates showed up, we had to make a mad search for the seam ripper and our own "alterations!"

those years were fun - i made it a point to make them so because my circumstances were actually not fun at all if i had given them thought. one year later it was college and the hippie life, but no matter how free we declared ourselves, we had to have the fashions to prove it, lol.

and dodger, that kaftan sounds really cool - there's a store around here that still sells those india imports, incense, beads, essential oils, etc. great place! (called "wild roots" -owned by 60 somethings).
