Speaking of 'Nostalgia', In several of the conversations I've recently had in the coridors of Tee Bee Dee, It has been suggested that I have a few stories to tell that have not been heard, ever, by anyone and should something happen to me, in my sleep, as it were, these tales would be lost ...
Such a waste. In that spirit, I open this thread ... Hopefully anything I should leave behind will be held in trust for my son Alex, Alexander Abston Steed, 14 July 1998, Fresno CA 93711-2502 ...
Let the stories begin ... Very few people realize the story behind the buffalo in America's western migration. Oh we've heard lately about wholesale slaughter by the white man, and quite frankly, it made little sense. there were pieces missing, huge pieces at that.
Almost by accident I stumbled upon a new perspective.
My Great-Great-Grandfather on my mothers side was one Theophile Conrad. About 1877, soon after he graduated from West Point, a young Lt. John 'Falls City' Hegewald would cross paths with this Austro-Hungerian Capitalist and our trail of the buffalo begins anew.
Theophile H. Conrad was known as a tanner and a cosack with friends at Court, John F.C. Hegewald was a Buffalo-Soldier with friends in Washington D.C.
