i guess i will answer my own question now. i was talking with a japanese friend who told me injections of b-complex vitamins are routine in japan when you are run down. she said the shot has a strong aroma, and that after she would get one, she could smell it coming out of her pores. i imagine that's how these flea treatments work also. what i have read about them says the fleas do not like the odor or the taste.

We have dogs and a cat,and flees.

wow this thread was dead for so long i forgot all about it.

my dogs have been on the flea treats for about 7 weeks now, and i have to say yes, i think it is working. they do not dig and bite at themselves nearly as much as they did last year.

i have cats too but i flea comb them. they will always have fleas i am afraid, so this summer will be the real test for the dogs.

i still plan to give them flea baths in the summer.

So RoseBear, how do bears cope with fleas?

i think the only way the dogs would be completely free of fleas would be if the cats were too. kind of an uphill battle with that! but the dogs are definitely better, and i think as time goes on, i will still see improvement.

another friend told me that when her husband used to go on fishing trips, he and his buddies would take the b vitamin complex starting about 3 weeks ahead of time to keep the black flies away.

believe it or not, brit, i am not sweet enough for the fleas to even want to bite me. :-)
