What gives & where are you all? I am here to chat, but what do you want to talk about? Are you all still working, retired, empty nesters, or what?

I am more or less retired, quit my PT job 3yrs ago, & love being a homebody. Husband is still working, keeps talking about retiring, but that's all it is at this point, cause deep down inside, he loves his job. He is also a spender, & I know he is worried about not being able to spend, once he retires.

We are also empty nesters, moved here to western NC about 11 yrs ago. Three kids between us, all live in CA still, where we moved from. I must admit, I love the peaceful quiet days here now.....

I love to quilt, cross stitch, read, among lots of other things!

So what about the rest of you? How about posting, as I have, so we can get to chatting!

Hi Happymrs ~ I just found this group and joined when I was looking at DeeD's profile to see if I could add her to friends. Dudette! I live in Western NC too. Are we neighbors? Small world, indeed. I majored in fine arts and enjoy all kinds of crafts, quilting included, but haven't done it in a long time. Just had an avalanche in my closet and found an old quilt top pieced by my grandmother. She gave it to me before she passed and asked me to finish it. So it looks like that will be one of my winter projects this year. I live on a mountain outside of Asheville with my bf and his 12 yr old son. Interesting synchronicity; he is from CA also, his family lives there; we go to visit about once a year. I'm NC homegrown; lived here all my life. Been to many places but never found one I liked better than right here. Make that 7 in this group now. Where are all the old hippie chicks? I want to hear some good stories. Peace ~ Golanv

I don't know if I qualify as a hippie chick even though I'm DEFINITELY over 50! I was very much a bookworm, straight-arrow "nerd" in high school (graduated in 1967) but loosened up a lot after that. But still I guess I'd have to say I was more of a hippie "wannabe" -- does that count at all?

I did know a lot of hippies though -- in fact some of my best friends were hippies! And now that I'm looking to retire, I'm thinking I'd like to get into communal living as a "senior", so maybe I'll end up as a hippie after all.

I look forward to seeing how this discussion develops.

Scratch that one. I was hesitant to enter relationship info on profile because I've been living with a dry drunk evidently. No more. I'll be looking today for a place to rent (in Asheville) until I can build a house. Going single again.

Well good luck going out on your own again! What's a dry drunk, one who has given it up altogether? That's what I am thinking anyway? I have two functioning alcoholics in my past, a good place for them too! Neither of us here, drink much, so that is not a problem for us, thank goodness! We actually live in Alexander, out along the French Broad river. We are up on a mountain & surrounded by woods, love it! That quilt top sounds interesting, post a pic of it for us when you get a chance! Would be nice to see this group grow, I need some girlfriends to chat with, lol. Hubby is great, but hey, it's just different with girlfriends, & don't we know it! (Just curious about bf, where was he from in CA?)
