I agree with you that this generation has a lot to offer. I worked at a little Barber Shop where I got very close to generations of family doing Grandpa's hair and him bringing in the Grandson. I have watched the older generation always complain about the younger one. My generation wore bellbottom jeans and hiphuggers. There's not much difference between that and these kids wearing their pants down on their waste. And each generation complains about the other. Even the younger ones believing that the older does not understand. Sometimes we should go back in time and remember how hard it was growing up. One thing for sure is that trends seem to come back around and there's really nothing unusual about that trend it's just something that comes back around and the teens think they're being original.

Amen to what has been said. It's time for our BB generation to start moving aside to allow the younger generations to move in and do as we did back in the 60s, forward: to manage and govern a changing world that is fraught with new challenges that demand new ways of dealing with our evolving society.

This is nothing more than an evolutionary phenomenon that is so close to our hearts. It was the BB generation that was best captured by the Buffalo Springfield's song, "For What It's Worth." I was in Vietnam at the time, wondering what the hell our old fart govenment was doing to our country as Watts was burning and we were engaged in an escalating conflict....sound familiar?

We were restless then. We had a hand in changing the world, for the better and for the worse. They are restless now. It's their turn.

Probably the most poignant, recent example was the Hillary - Obama campaigns in which the younger Obama staff showed us how the internet could dramtically raise campaign funds and create an air of excitement for change that we Baby Boomers at times appeared to be clueless toward. Recall, it wasn't but a few years ago that the Clinton machine (I voted for Bill) was alive and well. Now it appears to be heading the way of the dinosaur...regardless of whatever your political philosophies, right, center or left.

Right on Coolaero! We need to back our kids up and get more involved with them. Maybe if we quit worrying about what they wear or what music they listen to and work with them we could all change the world for the better.

Well, I wonder if the young generation today cares at all what happens outside of getting the new Ipod or fashion or whatever. Can't believe they have the outrage and willingness to demonstrate it that showed itself during Vietnam and at the Chicago Convention, etc. Seems to me that you BB were too busy giving them all you thought that you didn't get (materially) and never bothered to equate money and material things with chores, errands. An allowance? Forget it - give them as much as often as they like. And now the BB sit around and wonder WHY!! Gee.... Am I too hard on you??? Maybe.

The Generation (or G gap) will always exist. The younger souls think they know more and do not want to repeat the mistakes that their elders made. (Yes, we were there too.)

The bridge to the gap is communication. We do not understand the difference and our parents couldn't fathom it either.

Communication opens doors. We do not have to approve of the younger folks actions (although we are familiar with nihilism and isolationism, and the other isms too).

Listening is the key. The reason why we have TWO ears and only ONE mouth.

Secondly, understanding is imperative. Do we approve of their actions? Not always.

There are no problems, only solutions.

Agree on something. That is the threshold. Then, communicate and listen. After a few enlightenments. Chill out.

Give it another day. Pressing an issue, only brings discourse and hostility. Remember....Epcot wasn't built in one day.

That old saying, "The more things change, the more they stay the same" is very true. Most people forget what and how they felt in teens, 20's & 30's. Most of my co-workers are much younger and I find if they are treated with respect it makes a difference. Even my grandson made a comment that he thought it was great when we had discussions that were of interest to him. A lot of the older generation tend to talk at not to the younger people. It also is a big help if one keeps current with new technology and events.
