As a child I sought out older people and when I begin to write I understood that draw. Older people are a storehouse of information and experiences; what they saw, what they felt, how they reacted, and lived to pass their experience on.
I remember watching my grandfather's face as he described raising a family during The Depression. I remember listening to World War II vets as they tried to find the words to describe war, a proud mother as she describes the pain of a difficult birth, a mother who had lost a son, and a son who had lost a father.
When my son was alive he would drop what he was doing to hear me and my friends talk about growing up in the fifties. To us it was nothing but to him we were a storehouse of information.
So, what about you? Did you take the time to listen when "the old ones" were here and what did they tell you?
