i periodically re-read The Lord of the Rings trilogy (especially important now that i have seen the films and i want to reinstate my imagination's version of how it all looks), The Mists of Avalon and also the Darkover fantasy series she wrote (marion zimmer bradley), and also katherine kerr's series Daggerspell, Darkspell, etc etc with the many manifold reincarnated aspects of Rhodry and Gill.

I have read Margaret Mitchell's classic, "Gone With the Wind", three times; once, as a child, then, in my twenties, and again, in my forties. The same with the wonderful book by Harper Lee, "To Kill a Mockingbird."

Currently, I'm tending to read most of Bill Bryson's books twice, he's so knowledgeable about history, trivia, and such a wit! I especially love re-reading his books, "I'm a Stranger Here Myself,", "A Walk in the Woods,", and, "A Short History of Nearly Everything."

Neal Stephenson's "Baroque Cycle" trilogy and his "Cryptonomicon" do it for me. Huge stories, deep and full of interesting detail and fascinating characters. Every time I read them I see something new. When I read his works I feel...well, I guess "traveled." Like I've been someplace exotic and returned a changed man.

Bill Buford's "Heat." The compelling story of his experiences as a kitchen slave in celebrity chef Mario Batali's Babbo restuarant in New York, and susequent travels to Italy to learn secrets of pasta making and butchery.

"The Lensman" series by Bill Baldwin. This is the space opera of all space operas, it's grand, it's got huge scope, nasty villains, pure heroes, star-crossed love, space combat, space flight, a bit of politics, and adventure after adventure after adventure.

"The Walking Drum" by Louis L'Amour. Another historical adventure, easily on par with Stephenson's "Baroque Cycle." This is a master storyteller's work: Crisp and cleanly written, not an extraneous word or detail, brave hero and kohl-eyed beauties, flashing knives, assassins by night, acts of both bravery and treachery, camel caravans trekking across the shifting desert sands, sailing ships cresting the spuming waves.

The ones that I am mostly likely to reread are the ones on my bookshelves, from when I belonged to a science fiction book club.

Ray Bradbury's Dandelion Wine and The Martian Chronicles

From the public library, I'll likely pickup anything by Andre Norton and C. J. Cherryh whether I'd read it before or not. I'll often pick 10 or 12 books off the shelves, fiction and nonfiction, and read about half of them.

geez, i thought this was the sci fi/fantasy group. so those are the books i listed.

i re-read lots of other books too, like 'cold mountain' (i quit right before the end tho, too sad). actually i end up re-reading nearly every single novel i own because i am too lazy sometimes to walk over to the library and too shy to ask someone to drive me to the bookstore.

All the Castaneda books. (beginning with "Don Juan a Yaqui Way of Knowledge").

The unabridged version of Robinson Crusoe by Daniel Defoe. It's not just about being shipwrecked on a deserted island. It can speak to anyone who finds himself/herself alone and isolated from society. Highly recommened.
