I saw a thread asking if anyone thought Obama was scary... I wondered why anyone would be afraid of him. As I read the thread I felt that "Main stream" America doesn't understand African-Americans very well. It seems the fear is about his loyalty to America. No one has articulated any concerns about McCain’s Loyalty to America. It was also expressed that Obama was unknown until he decided to run for president and he was compared to Hitler. I thought associating Obama with Hitler was an inflammatory statement. McCain’s choice for VP is a female with very little national popularity and still there is no utterance of her being a dictator.
When will African-Americans be considered “Americans” with the same hopes, fears, desires and loyalties as the rest of Americans? Why are African-Americans scrutinized so disparagingly when we attempt to exercise our rights as an American Citizen?
I hope that this election will change the way our country views our people. It’s time for us to be recognized as Americans after all we’ve slaved and fought for this country.
