If you've never been to a Scottish event, they can be a lot of fun. Especially, if like myself, you have a keen appreciation for MIK's! LOL
The Highland Games held in Mesa, AZ for the Phoenix area are very good. Game & dancing exhibitions, booths, food, tartan sales. Alex Beaton is featured regularly too. Good annual event.

I've been to one in Minnesota and two in Texas. The one in Arlington, TX is the best I've attended so far. But the one in Minnesota was decent, too. I'm looking forward to attending more. And hopefully, going to the 2009 Clan Gathering in Edinburgh. I would love to hear what experiences others might have had at similar events. . .
You need to check out the festivals in North Carolina, Mairi. They are classics. Most are in the Blue Ridge. They are on the net....dates, places, etc. A lot of music, food, arts and crafts, games, and just meeting and having fun.
I have a feeling that no other Scottish festival can compare to the one in Edinburgh. However, I have just attended my first one, in Ligonier, PA. Previous to that, my sister and her husband (who is a Celtic harpist), had attended the one in NC, at Grandfather Mountain.
At the end of this month, we are rendezvous-ing (sp?) in Richmond, for yet another Highland Games. Has anyone ever attended that one?
Not made the one in Richmond, yet, but hope to someday soon. I have attended the Grandfather Mountain "Gathering." When you use "Gathering", Kathy-O, you don't have to worry about spelling....(smile).
