I have been 2 Scotland twice. The second trip was a 20 day guided tour of the inner Hebrides islands. I would love to go again.

Scotland is like most countries in that you encounter much nicer people as soon as you leave the big cities and there are no big cities on the islands.

There are many ferries that leave from Oban, Scotland to the islands but I would recommend a tour group as most of the island roads are one lane with the occasional wide spot for passing.

Tonight, I am in Matlock Derbyshire in the centre of England on my way back from Scotland to my home near Windsor.

Last summer, my husband and I went to Scotland, and we spent 5 days at the home of a friend, who lives near Inverness, right outside of Beauly. All our experiences were around that area, small day trips, and we did make it to Skye, which was beautiful, but driving on the island was like a little scary, because of the narrow roads, and at least one vehicle that was absolutely going to take right of way! :) Some of the things we really enjoyed were: the Cairns of Clava, the church at Nig, Loch Ness, Culloden, Cawdor Castle, Eilan Donan Castle. Although it's not countryside, we spent a day in Edinburgh, and absolutely loved it. We spent the evening in a great little pub called Sandy Bell's, where local musicians came in and played live music. I would go back there in a minute, if given the opportunity again. The country was beautiful (albeit wet!), and the people were wonderful.
