Cain't find the link right offhand, and need to be running errands, but wish I would have bookmarked a Favorites link to the recent FoxNews/Rasmussen poll, where the question was asked "Do politicians elaborate on the truth (means LIE, pipples)... and 71% of respondents said 'Yes', but they still will go to the polls and are willing to cast votes for a liar... DANG! Is it resounding indifference, apathy, or just that the concept of integrity and honor are passe' in the 21st Century?

Kind of makes one wonder if we are in fact in the last days where the Good Book warned us of tolerating the 'nest of vipers who call good evil, and evil good...' and the punishments sure to follow...

Wow...do you sound like me ['the incestuous relationship' thing]! Others write back that we should write our Congressmen...another wrote that we should get out the vote!...it all sounds so civic-minded but fails to grasp the point that you [and I] have realized.

The issue is hardly GOP vs Dems. We need representatives who are citizens first, who are in Washington to solve pressing national problems NOT feather their own nests. My unanswerable question: why would someone spend MILLIONS for a position paying less than $250,000/yr? Makes you wonder, 'don't it?'

I had some faith in McCain, a dedicated anti-pork guy, branded as a heretic for his campaign finance legislation. However, now he won't put himself under those same legislated limits that were supposed to be so good for American government!

Dick Morris, in his book 'Outrage,' documents the points you make so well--[the entire British Parliament was elected for less money than was spent by ONE US congressman.] And Lou Dobbs, anchor of Lou Dobbs Tonight, rails against those hijacking the American government, on a nightly basis. I now watch him more to see how outraged he can get and keep his dignity!

When people stop being people will these conflict of interests go away. The majority of politicians have personal agendas. I personally liked Dick Morris's agenda the best which seemed to be; getting laid when he worked for President Clinton. If you remember he resigned in disgrace as well.

While Doofster Dan may think I am naive, the only way to make change is to engage in the process. Write your congressman, vote, be heard. What would happen if the middle class turned off American Idol and actively participated in the political process? If you have a different suggestion I am listening, let me hear what you have to propose. Ranting about it sure doesn't seem to make much of a difference does it?

Hilary is not against free trade, and it was her husband who signed off on NAFTA. And it was the right thing to do unless you are a low-skilled worker making better than average wages. It's been said that he was the "best republican president". She, like Obama and McCain is just pandering to us asleep at the wheel voters.

The US gov't was hijacked a long time ago, right around the time it was formed as a matter of fact. There have always been crooked politicians, those with their own agendas and those who expect to profit from their public service.

We ultimately have the power to make these changes, but have been fooled into thinking we cant effect change.

The old expression, "even a work will turn" means the pain of the condition has to be so bad that even we weak willed, myopic, distracted and otherwise engaged dont act until we are stepped on too much.

Unfortunately, it appears we (collectively) act like that dumb frog (Froggy no insult intended)in the pot of water that gradually gets turned up to boiling and never jump out.

Until we get the "shock" it won't happen.

I hear ya! But what are we really bitching about? Our standard of living is the highest in the world. Financially anyways. Yes, our system continually eliminates and creates new jobs that create uncertainty and upheavel in people's lives. But our unemployment is only 5% while in Germany it's closer to 10%. Maybe the most you can say is that it's an expensive gov't with policies the majority of Americans don't agree with.

And let face it nobody forced these sub-prime borrowers to sign those mortgage's they couldn't afford. And where did the concept of a "rainy day fund" go? Or not spending more than you can afford? Since adult diabetes is the fastest growing ailment facing adult Americans maybe we'd all get more exercise and lay off the sugar? Do you see that happening anytime soon? Or what if we embraced the global economic market instead of bitching about it we'd export more products and services and create more jobs in lots of locations including the US. This is something that I do know something about and it does work that way too. My company's opening of an office in Germany is creating jobs here in the states. That's my personal experience and something you will never read about in a newspaper or elsewhere.

So maybe we really don't want change, maybe there is only 5% of us that do and that's why things stay the same. I personally believe that we should have universal health care. I think this is the biggest issue we are facing. Not the Iraq war. Logically health care affects more people directly than the war. But the war is an emotional issue too. So I'm probably in the minority on that. Either way I'm not sure if any gov't can help people from themselves and their poor decisions.

Politics is no different than big business. They're both dirty and unduly influenced by money and personal gain or personal pleasure(my preference too). Would the outcome of our elections be any different with limits on campaign spending? Who's to say. Term limits did not have the effect everyone thought they would. Incumbents remain almost unbeatable, with something like 90%+ winning re-election.

We let them get away with their offenses in return for perceived safety and comfort and the knowledge that we can look the other way and lead our lives.

FYI - loved V for Vendetta. Great movie. Loved all the political undertones.
