Funny thing happened on the way to the forum ...

The other day, I was having lunch in a neighborhood restaurant and you will be able to tell from the texture of the conversation that this isn't Mr Rogers' neighborhood.

I chose to sit at the counter instead of in a booth because I enjoy getting into conversations with strangers. Anyway, the topic being discussed before I entered it was: "Who would you vote for for president?"

The guy sitting next to me said (rather loudly, I might add) that he would never vote for a black guy. They were ... different from 'us.'

I couldn't resist answering. I said that I had been studying Obama and that he was more like me than John McCain was. I said that from his words and actions I could tell that both of us were thinkers and dreamers and John McCain was a straight-line military thinker - follow the lines established by the predecessor.

Second, I watched the video of the basketball game he played on the campaign trail and despite the belief that black guys can jump, he, like me, never was given the ball. Also he thought that the gutter in the bowling lane was a safe passage. I've been there and done that as well.

Third, even though there is a rumor that most black guys spend their 20s in jail, Obama has never been arrested even though he admitted to using cocaine as a young man, while McCain was dumb enough to get caught and imprisoned for five years even though the only thing he did wrong was trespass on a N Vietnamese lawn! In that respect, I am also more like Obama. I've never been caught, either! And, no, I never used drugs but I have performed some nefarious deeds that were on the gray side of black and white - right and wrong.

Thank you, Milt T. Obama is much more like me too. I used to think McCain was okay until I met someone who worked with him. He told me he was a complete a**hole to work with because of his anger problem; that he used to hold his breath until he lost consciousness when he got angry as a kid. I googled "McCain anger" and was amazed at the results. Not a good person to have near the "button" imho. My heritage is mostly English & Scots/Irish with a maternal great grandmother who was Cherokee/Nez Perce. Obama's mother is white. I agree with what John Edwards said yesterday; that Obama will be the best one to unite the people of our country again. ALL the people. Peace ~ Golanv

It called war Asshole. I can tell by your mindless and rude comment that you don't care too much for our military, men and women who selflessly serve our country so butt hairs like you can insult them and call them names. You must be a real hero.

I have a dream that Obama is soundly defeated by a real American hero and despite that fact that he might be an ass hole, I can live with that. Despite the fact I don't really want to vote for him as he is a "RINO" and far to liberal for me. He's the best Democrat running and the only one with a record in the U S Senate to be President.

Obama and Clinton are mainline Socialists and want to take America down the road to corporate socialism. Obama has the most liberal voting record in the U.S. Senate and he was a disaster in the state senate as well, both candidates are credential less, inexperienced and totally cluless on economics as well.

I'll be voting for McCane, I don't like it but he is a world away from the others in the field. I go back to a statement of truth, maybe the only time for Obama: given in one of his early speeches in the campaign... "America is one of the greatest country's in the world today, now join with me to change that." Amen.

I'm sure the truth will be evident in time.

PS... I agree with John Edwards that Obama can unite this country again. The sober ones that is. I'm not sure about you. And McCain is not the best Democrat running. He is a Republican. (rolls eyes)
