"The information of the people at large can alone make them the safe as they are the sole depositary of our political and religious freedom." --Thomas Jefferson to William Duane, 1810. ME 12:417
"If a nation expects to be ignorant and free in a state of civilization, it expects what never was and never will be." --Thomas Jefferson to Charles Yancey, 1816. ME 14:384
Here's what I'd like to be told, or at least discussed in this Presidential Race about race relations, by the media, political pundits, historians, and Democrats, as well as Republicans:
1) Which was the Party that abolished slavery in 1840 in the US, then thereafter initiated the Underground Railroad for slaves escaping the South? The Whig - later called Republican
2) Which Party fought, and over 600,000 Americans died to preserve the Union and Emancipate slaves? The Republican
2a) Which Party fought in the same Civil War to preserve individual rights to own slaves? The Democratic
3) Which Party was the mainstay of the founding, membership, and support of the Ku Klux Klan? The Democrat
4) Which Party elected the first Black Representatives to Congress, and enforced Reconstruction? The Republican
5) Which Party enacted the Jim Crow, and Whites/Coloreds Only laws blacks hold so repugnant? The Democratic
6) Which Party defied the Federal Government and vowed to keep schools segregated? The Democratic
7) Which Southern State Governor named Wallace had as his Party defiance on the State Capitol steps, to defend segregation to the end, Which Governor's Party stood before a school house defending Little Rock's Segregation with armed state troopers? The Democratic
8) It was Democratic sheriffs and governors 'who let the dogs out' and turned fire hoses on civil rights marches.
9) Which Party ended this style of political B.S., enacted the 14th Amendment, desegregated schools, and enforced voting rights for blacks? The Republican
10) Which Party has been the first to appoint Blacks, women and other minorities to Cabinet positions? The Republican
11) Which Party was Martin Luther King, Jr a registered voter of on the Voter Registration rolls? The Republican
12) Which Party is turning a blind eye to the Sura 4:3 of the Koran which states that a Muslim man can marry a Jewish or Christian woman (provided she converts) and children will be raised Muslim upon pain of death tot he wife. But a Christian or Jewish man can not marry a Muslim woman upon pain of death for them both, including their children. The Koran further states that it is not against Islamic law to lie to infidels. Isn't pretending to be a Christian a lie? Not much is mentioned of Obama's mother who converted to Islam after her marriage and before the birth of Barak. Not much is mentioned of her remarriage to a Muslim, and barak attending Muslim elementary and middle school in Indonesia. I wonder why? No separation of church and state in school teaching there. No mention of the church (or mosques, perhaps?) Barak attended through high school, college, law school, until he was 27... Only for the last two decades in an avowedly black racist church, that calls itself Christian, yet teaches hatred, anti-Semitism, and God Damn, not Bless, America... This is the same Church that gives Farrakhan a Christian (!?) Lifetime Achievement Award - to a Black Muslim???!!!??But we're supposed to believe it's all better now because Barak Hussein (hiss, not s'posed to call him by middle name, it's racist and anti-religious) Obama said so today. Never mind that the press insists on calling Hillary Rodham Clinton or John Sidney McCain by their rightfully proud names. Until February's debates, and queries of Obama's last name and background arise. did his campaign start whining using it was racist, or if not, anti-Muslim, divisive, and might now reflect his current religious views.
Yet Senator McCain can just meet, not have on his campaign staff, with a Protestant minister who doesn't like Catholics, and the Leftist media jumps all over him for religious intolerance, and possible racism, for weeks.
It's only since the 1960's and Great Society days, and the emergence of the nanny state and welfare roles, subsidized housing and Democratic enaction of Affirmative Action, forced busing, relegating blacks to inferior status and institutionalized victimization, that the Democrats have been able to spread the 'Big Lie' that they care the most for the poor, black former slaves. I'm sorry, the last 48 years years doesn't negate a 170 year Party history of subjugating the same people you have now convinced you are the saviors of. It had, and has, been Republicans who have fostered the environment of self-reliance and dignity of merit through performance not entitlement.
Why isn't this message being disseminated, not only in this vital election cycle, but every day? Why can't we just get along? Why can't everyone play nice without needing adult supervision?
Guess we will have to let the voters decide, if enough of them care enough to inform, educate, or even, exercise the privilege.
