I'm about to retire early from my job as a university professor. As part of that job I published regularly in academic journals, but now I'm interested in developing a second career as a free-lance writer. Writing for an audience of actual humans in English is quite different from communicating in the argot of the academy, and I need practice (as you can see). I've heard of writers who have been discovered through their blogs and gotten writing assignments and book deals that way. I would like to look at some writers' blogs to see if that might be a possibility for me. Does anyone know of some good ones? I am particularly interested in funny blogs or travel writers' blogs. Are there any writers out there who use blogs to get work?
