Like everything else a good way is to just start. My first blogging experience was on MySpace.

My blogging community has been very supportive and fun. Write on whatever moves you and then make it real to us the reader.

If you can make it as personal as possible so we can relate to you the writer. It makes the reader feel like they know you or like you are sharing a small part of yourself with us and we can care about you.

Anyway that is my 2cents worth.

If you want to start out the right way I'd suggest you do a wordpress hosted blog. One with your own domain name. To get a feel for them you can play with the free version at www.wordpress.com, but if you want to make some money and be taken seriously by the blogging world you'd do better with the www.wordpress.org Open Type is another option but I'm not really familiar with it. Blogger.com is super easy and might be fun to experiment with as well.

My best advice is to join www.twitter.com The Bloggers and SEO type of people are using that extensively and are always passing along great tips and website articles to check out. my twitter name is yourwebchick. You can follow me (I don't tweet much) but watch who I follow... and you'll start to see. Problogger is probably my favorite blogger so follow him too.

I'm not an expert... I've been wasting my time on the free blogs but if you want to start out the right way and learn from my experience.. try the things I mentioned. :)
