I want to know why every time I turn on the TV or in most movies, when the main characters get together in a social situation alcohol is involved. It seems like no one can have fun without a drink in their hand. I truly think people take this as a cue that somehow drinking is mandatory for a good time. If you watch shows like Grey's Anantomy, the main characters only relax at the bar down the street after having multiple drinks. My favorite show Sex and the City revolved around the Martini, namely making the Cosmopolitan the "in" drink. My husband quit drinking one year ago and I decided to join him in the no alcohol zone. After my husband's drinking escalated in the last several years, the appeal of the beverage was lost on me. It is really interesting though, because when alcohol is out of your life, you start to realize it is everywhere. It is especially ackward going out to dinner with friends who still drink. They are truly uncomfortable when you do not partake. It is almost like you have to creat a whole new social life. I wonder if anyone else has had this experience?
